Secretariat of the Navy agents detained six people on a vessel with 650 kilograms of cocaine, more than 112 kilometers from the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, in Michoacán, located on Mexico's Pacific coast. In a press release, the Security Cabinet reported that the cargo was seized within the framework of maritime operations deployed by security forces, who, thanks to intelligence information provided by the United States, located six people in a small vessel with illegal cargo. According to authorities, they seized four burlap-type bags containing 580 brick-type packages with white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine hydrochloride, with an approximate weight of 650 kilograms, as well as 350 liters of fuel. The Navy agents conducted this operation on an ocean patrol vessel with the support of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, as well as three interceptor patrol boats. Likewise, the United States provided intelligence information for the location of the suspects, through the Northern Command and the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF SOUTH). "The detained persons were read their legal rights and, along with the seized items, were made available to the competent authorities to determine their legal situation," highlighted the Security Cabinet. The authorities emphasized that with this action, organized crime was economically affected by approximately 150 million pesos (8.28 million dollars), while preventing the possible distribution of more than a million doses of drugs. "These actions are part of the maritime surveillance operations carried out by the Secretariat of the Navy through the Mexican Navy to inhibit criminal activity and represent a significant impact on the financial structure of criminal groups, thus preventing Mexican society from being exposed to large quantities of doses of illicit substances," the authorities concluded. According to figures from the Security Cabinet, since Claudia Sheinbaum came to power in October 2024, the Navy has seized 62 tons of cocaine at sea as "part of the actions to weaken the operations of organized crime".
